moong dal chilla recipe | moong dal cheela recipe | moong dal ka chilla with step by step photo and video recipe. cheela recipes are very common breakfast recipes in many north indian households. it is generally made with besan or chickpea flour, with finely chopped tomatoes and spices, but can also be made with other flours and cereals. moong dal chilla is one variation recipe which can be made for breakfast and lunch boxes.
to be honest, i am not a huge fan of moong dal cheela but a big fan of its south indian cousin pesarattu recipe. both the pancake shares the same main ingredient, i.e mung beans but is prepared differently. while the moong dal cheela recipe, is prepared with split mung beans, whereaspesarattu is prepared with mung beans. moreover, pesarattu dosa is served with traditional upma recipe as it side dish which makes it exciting. having said that, moong dal ka chilla is an amazing dish when served with green chutney or any spicy chutney recipe. i personally like it with simple aloo matar curry or with any gravy based paneer recipes.
furthermore some tips, recommendations and suggestions for a perfect moong dal chilla recipe. firstly, the batter has to be a medium consistency and not like a south indian dosa batter. hence add water in small batches while grounding the soaked moong beans. secondly, the recipe can be easily extended by adding choice of veggies directly to the cheela batter. you can experiment it by adding finely chopped onions, tomatoes, carrots, capsicum and even finely chopped beans. lastly, the moong dal ka chilla is ideally served with grated paneer as its topping. while it is completely optional to have, but tastes great when served together.
