Coat chicken nuggets bites in egg then dredge in almond flour mixture. Once all nuggets are coated in flour, dredge a second time.
Evenly layer nuggets in oiled air fryer basket and air fry at 400ºF for 10-12 minutes or until cooked through. Give them a shake about half way through cooking time. (I usually break the largest nugget apart to check for doneness) Do Not Forget To Oil The Basket!
Notes
This recipe yields approximately 12 nuggets - 2 servings.
If doubling this recipe, nuggets need to be air fried in 2 separate batches to ensure a crisp outer coating.
These are best eaten fresh. If reheating, air fry for 2 minutes at 400ºF to crisp back up.

These were so good! Will totally make again. We have a nut allergy in our fam so I used sunflower seed flour instead of almond and they turned out great! Thanks 🙂

Where does the 39 grams of fat come from? If this is an air fryer, really, very minimum oil should be used. It’s just that 39 grams of fat is more than a Big Mac. Please let me know how this can be less fattening.

Almond flour is very high in fat. Use different flour for a lot less fat

Jules – the majority of the fat comes from the almond flour coating. The 1/2 cup of almond flour in each serving is 30 grams of fat. Almond fats are better for you than the fats in a Big Mac … but this may be better for you than fast food, the recipe is not exactly healthy. It’s still fried food with a lot of salt.

Nuts are very high in fat, it’s basically from the almond flour.

By not using almond flour. Use regular four or gluten free.
Try our NEW low carb Chicken Strips or Nuggets in the air fryer instead of the microwave or oven. Air fry 10 Frozen Chicken Nuggets at 375 degrees F for 8-12 minutes, or 4-6 Frozen Chicken Strips for 8-12 minutes at 375 degrees F, or until the internal temperature hits 165*.
Heat the air-fryer to 200C, then cook the chicken nuggets in a single layer (you may need to do this in batches) for 10-12 mins until cooked through and golden brown. Serve with ketchup, if you like.
It's also best to give most smaller foods (such as cauliflower florets, french fries, or chicken nuggets) a good shake or toss in the middle of the cooking cycle to expose new parts of the food to the heating element.
Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. Once preheated, place the chicken nuggets in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Try not to overcrowd the basket. You can cook the chicken nuggets in 2 batches if needed. Air fry for 8 minutes, flipping the nuggets halfway through.
Verdict: The oven and air-fryer methods hands down tied for the win, and they were worth the extra cooking time. While the oven produced a tad juicier nugget, the air fryer created a slightly crispier one, which felt like an even trade off for me and made them equally delicious.
Place frozen chicken nuggets in a single layer on a baking sheet sprayed with cooking spray. Lightly spray nuggets with cooking spray. Sprinkle nuggets with garlic powder and Parmesan cheese. Bake for 11 to 13 minutes, until nuggets are golden brown and heated through.
Aside from classics like salt, pepper, basil and garlic, you could try using chilli powder, ginger, cumin, cayenne, paprika, oregano, sage, rosemary and thyme.
Putting them into the oven or microwave frozen could cause them to become soggy because they are thawing and cooking simultaneously. The convection of an air fryer cooks them so fast that they don't have time to get soggy. There is no reason to thaw them out before cooking them.
Do I need to defrost chicken nuggets before air frying? No - it's better if you don't! The air fryer cooks them perfectly straight from frozen. This also goes for frying them using a deep fat fryer or baking them in the oven.
When preheated, spray air fryer basket with spray oil (optional) and place chicken nuggets in basket in single, even layer, making sure not to stack or overlap nuggets. Work in batches as needed to avoid over-crowding basket. Place basket in air fryer and cook 5 minutes.
"We recommend using a three-minute preheat for most models," says Shah. For larger and oven-style air fryers, preheat for five minutes. Once the preheat timer has elapsed, add the food in a single layer (handling the basket carefully since it will be hot) and cook according to the recipe.
Make sure the oven is preheated to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. On a level baking sheet, place frozen chicken nuggets on one even layer. Bake for six minutes, remove from oven and turn product over. Bake for an additional six to eight minutes.
If you want your chicken nuggets extra crispy, you can try lightly brushing them with a small amount of oil or melted butter before placing them in the oven. For a healthier alternative, consider using an air fryer instead of the oven. Air frying will give you that same satisfying crunch with less oil.
